New Technology for a New Smile

Advanced Dental Technology in Rockford, IL

More sophisticated tools and materials make it easier for us to do our job. More importantly, they enable us to make your trip to the dentist’s office more pleasant than in years past. Dr. Varland and his staff are proud to offer the KaVo DIAGNOdent® and The Wand by CompuDent™ to all patients who want to reap the benefits of dentistry’s latest advancements.

 The Wand by CompuDent™

If you are one of those patients for whom the mere thought of getting a shot in the mouth is worse than the injection itself, we offer this computerized system that does the job of the traditional needle, minus the trauma of seeing a dentist descend upon you with a syringe. Consisting of a small needle that looks like a pen and is operated by a foot pedal, The Wand allows Dr. Varland to infuse local anesthetic into the mouth at a slow and highly controlled rate, eliminating the discomfort that occurs any time liquid surges into tissue. Plus, The Wand’s injections are preceded by a drop of anesthetic that numbs the tissue before the needle tip even touches the skin.

 KaVo DIAGNOdent®

With the new focus on conservative dentistry, those in our profession are making every effort to catch problems at their earliest and most treatable phases. One way we do this is through early cavity detection with KaVo DIAGNOdent® —because even the tiniest imperfection has the potential to become a big problem later on.

We use the KaVo DIAGNOdent® laser to first take a baseline reading of healthy tooth material. Then, we aim the laser at the rest of your mouth where fluorescent light will indicate potential cavities amid the grooves, curves and fine lines of your otherwise healthy-looking teeth. A quick and pain-free procedure, cavity detection with KaVo DIAGNOdent® eliminates the need for x-rays. And because it catches problems at such an early state, correction is often just a matter of lightly removing decay.
